We increasingly feel that symbolic buildings which once helped us navigate the city—especially on the Anatolian side—are rapidly disappearing. Meeting points and landmarks we used to give directions, like the McDonald’s on Bağdat Street, the Çarşı, or Rexx Cinema, are vanishing one by one. We aimed to preserve the iconic value of the existing building—without repeating the mistakes made in the reconstruction of the AKM, where the memory was flattened into a nostalgic replica rather than reinterpreted through contemporary architectural thought.`
`Özellikle Anadolu Yakası’nda artık hepimizin yolumuzu bulmamıza yardımcı olan simgesel yapıların hızla kaybolduğunu hissediyoruz. Bağdat Caddesi McDonald’s, Çarşı, Rexx Sineması gibi buluşma noktaları ya da yön tarifinde kullandığımız referans yapılar birer birer siliniyor. Projede mevcut binanın simgesel şemasını korumayı hedefledik—AKM’nin yeniden inşasında yapılan hataları tekrar etmeden, hafızayı nostaljik bir kopyaya indirgemek yerine, çağdaş mimari düşünceyle yeniden yorumlamaya çalıştık.`
